A Letter from Heather
My experience with the International Center’s Global Leadership Program
I’ve always had a passion for all things international. When I was young, my favorite three films were Mulan, Selena and Ever After, which all featured international themes and characters. The World is Flat also came out when I was in high school. The fact is that we are in a global generation and this has been an awareness I gained as a child and kept throughout my career.
So when I had the opportunity to be a part of the International Center’s Global Leadership program in Indianapolis I was elated. The goal of the program is to help participants expand cultural knowledge through a collaborative curriculum, while convening and connecting established and rising relevant global leadership.
During the program, I was able to benefit from the wide-ranging backgrounds of the members of the cohort. Coming together with such a vibrant group of people was insightful and rewarding. The relationships I formed and the conversations that were sparked are unforgettable. We studied a wide range of material, from cross-cultural communication to how the non-profit, government and business sectors can be understood from an international perspective.
For Porch, the Global Leadership Program has helped deepen our understanding of our global clients and the challenges they face. For example, when we are creating pieces for international clients, we understand that further research into their audience is necessary to build a more robust strategy that includes cross-cultural communication.
We also believe it will help us to guide our clients, both local and international, to operate with greater global awareness. Having a more nuanced understanding of these operations on a global scale has helped widen our perspective as a boutique agency. This is especially important, given our wide-ranging portfolio which includes business, non-profit and government agencies. As a result, we are able to deliver results on par with much larger companies even as we remain relatively small.
Continuing to embed myself in our enriching Indianapolis community and enjoying all of the resources that are available has been such a rewarding experience. If you haven’t heard of the International Center, I would highly recommend you check them out.
