This past spring I (Heather) attended a Indy SHRM event. During that event it was fun to bring some examples to our table discussions on how stories can truly help make an impact when trying to communicate effectively. After the event, I enthusiastically chatted with the presenter and he said that one of the biggest things companies are looking for now is transformation.

Art and storytelling have some of the highest capacities to evoke transformative experiences because of their roots in empathy.

If you have met me in person, you know I tend to get pretty passionate about certain things. At this moment I was bursting with excitement because this was combining two of my favorite things: business + art.

Art and storytelling have some of the highest capacities to evoke transformative experiences because of their roots in empathy. The past ten years we have been continuously helping our clients achieve their business objects and bringing the art of video to help with the solutions. I have also learned a great deal of storytelling through my outside commitments such as the IRT, New Harmony Project and Heartland Film Festival – all leading local organizations that excel in transforming hearts and minds through story.

Right then and there, I decided to dive in deeper and set on a journey to learn more.

One of the main goals I established was to obtain my change management certificate through Prosci and that is what I did this July. It was an intense three days but the experience was incredible and the knowledge gained is invaluable. We now have better processes and language to help our clients utilize storytelling and effective communications in their projects that evolve around change. And let’s be honest, that’s most projects because as we all know – the only thing constant is change.

Interested in learning more about how we are applying this to our projects? Or how we can help apply these skills to your next project? Give us a call!
